Crystal Kids Youth Centre is seeking Part-time Critical Mentor(s). The wage is $19-$21 per hour and is based on a 20 - 30 hour work week. Hours are Noon to 8pm with some variation. Some weekend work may be required. Ideal candidates have a healthy work/life balance.

We are seeking skilled relational care practitioners with experience and education in the human services sector, specifically: Bachelor of Child and Youth Care or diploma, Social Work Diploma or Degree, Corrections Diploma, Phys Ed Degree, Crisis Intervention workers. Early childhood/Daycare workers do not meet our qualifications and need not apply.

Who We Are:
Crystal Kids is a provider of Prevention and Early Intervention services founded in 1992. We are a CRA registered Charity in the Edmonton inner-city. We average 13.000 youth visits per yea serving hundreds of at-risk and marginalized children. At Crystal Kids we are equity-led and serve youth in an Inter-cultural safe space, where diversity is celebrated. Frankly, \"culture\" is our CULTURE. Indigenous and Ethno-cultural children make up most of our participants. Our team of relational care practitioners are trauma informed. We practice harm reduction and programs and services are individualized. Critical mentoring, literacy interventions, life skills competencies, and wellness support are just a few of our programs. All programs are free. We also provide nutritional support and food security, which is the most pressing need of our children. We are engaged in wellness support by assisting and mentoring youth navigating extensive lived experience with generational trauma, poverty, physical and mental health challenges, and complex prolonged adversity. We mentor and support youth in building capacity and bolstering resiliency.

The ideal candidate qualifies with:

At least 6 months of study toward a diploma or degree in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Corrections, Psychology or a degree in Phys Ed.
Minimum 6 months of experience in a youth-client ages 6-19 setting (Youth Centre, Group Care Milieu).
Impressive conflict management and crisis intervention skills.
Strong assessment and critical thinking skills.
Effective communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
High level of professionalism, confidentiality, and diplomacy.
Knowledgeable of community resources.
High degree of resourcefulness, flexibility, and adaptability.
Excellent planning and organization skills to meet deadlines.
Ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
Highly motivated and compassionate.
Proficiency in written and spoken English.
CPR First Aid Intermediate Level C with AED.
Able to pass a criminal record check with vulnerable sector and a Child Welfare Intervention Record Check.

*We’d be excited if you also have 2 or more years experience in coaching youth sports teams.

As part of a multi-disciplinary team of Critical Mentors, the candidate will be a role model who will:

Practice relational care, trauma-informed care, and support our harm reduction best practices.
Provide leadership, guidance, and mentoring to male clients ages 6–19.
Build capacity, self-reliance, and assist youth with coping strategies and managing stress.
Mentor and coach life skills.
Assist youth in self-regulating emotions, behaviours, and conflict resolution.
Mentor and demonstrate healthy communication.
Mentor and demonstrate healthy relationships, influencing how they engage, develop, and sustain healthy relationships with staff, peers, teachers, family, and other significant adults.
Provide literacy and numeracy support.
Assess and help youth self-assess their individual needs.
Create and implement program plans, behaviour plans, and safety plans.
Engage youth in a variety of activities that include, but are not limited to, literacy, games, art, culture, and athletics, with a focus on sportsmanship.
Be comfortable in our commercial kitchen and, on rotation, prepare meals for up to 80 individuals.
